Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD)

Meiboman Gland Dysfunction (MGD) is something that affects the eyes and is commonly known is said to be caused when the eyelid gland secretions start to become thick and sticky. This causes blockages in the gland orifices which can solidify and prevent the natural oily secretion of the eyes from oozing out, which then prevents the normal lubrication of the eyes surface.

There are said to be around 30 openings on the edge of the upper and lower eyelids and the Meibomian glands run vertically through them. The disfunction of the Meibomian gland can result in several symptoms. The most common symptom is a gritty sensation or feeling that something is stuck in your eye which can lead to constant discomfort. Sometimes there are also feelings of burning or soreness on the edge of the eyelids. These can all combine together simultaneously or at different times depending on the indivdual.
