About WheatyBags®
Premium Quality Heat Packs, Made in Britain
WheatyBags® is a specialist British manufacturer of microwave heat packs, wheat bags and warming products, designed and made by our own manufacturing team in Lancashire.
We created the WheatyBags® brand more than a decade ago because we wanted to manufacture heat packs properly — using good quality fabrics, carefully prepared natural fillings, strong construction and, importantly, proper safety testing.
Today, WheatyBags® remains a UK-made brand operated by Clear Prospects Ltd, the Lancashire textile manufacturing company behind several specialist consumer and trade brands.
We don't simply put our name on a heat pack made somewhere else.
We make them ourselves.
Over a Decade of WheatyBags® Manufacturing
WheatyBags® was created in 2010, building on more than a decade of textile manufacturing experience already established by Clear Prospects Ltd.
Our company had been cutting fabric and sewing products in the UK since 1999, having originally started with The JetRest® travel pillow.
When we created WheatyBags®, we applied that existing textile manufacturing expertise to an entirely new product category: microwave heat packs designed for warmth and comfort.
Since then, we have continued to develop the range, introducing different shapes, sizes, fabrics, fillings, scents, removable covers and personalised options.
Many of our products are still manufactured in exactly the environment in which the WheatyBags® brand was developed — our own factory in Blackburn, Lancashire.
We Are Manufacturers — Not Just Resellers
There is an important difference between buying a heat pack from a company that simply sources finished products and buying from a company that actually manufactures them.
At WheatyBags®, we have our own textile manufacturing capabilities.
Our production involves processes including:
- Fabric cutting
- Sewing and construction
- Internal stitching and compartmentalisation
- Filling
- Finishing
- Labelling
- Quality checking
- Packaging and despatch
Our manufacturing expertise also means we can develop heat packs in different sizes, shapes, fabrics and configurations rather than being restricted to whatever a third-party manufacturer happens to offer.
For example, our heat packs include traditional rectangular designs, shoulder and neck shapes, larger body warmers, bottle-shaped packs, smaller targeted heat packs and other specialist designs.
Safety Is Not Optional
A microwave heat pack is a product that is designed to be heated.
That means safety has to be taken seriously.
When we developed WheatyBags®, we made the decision to test our products against the UK's voluntary safety standard for microwave heat packs, BS 8433:2004.
Our WheatyBags® heat packs have been safety tested against this standard, and the appropriate safety instructions are supplied with the products and incorporated into product labelling.
But our approach to safety goes further than simply having a standard printed on a label.
The company's Director personally pushed the products through extensive testing during the development and certification process, including testing products to the point of failure to understand how they behaved when subjected to excessive heating.
That experience helped us understand the importance of correct construction, filling, stitching, heating instructions and labelling.
We would rather understand how our products behave than simply assume they will be safe.
Quality Before Price
There are plenty of inexpensive microwave heat packs available online.
Some are imported finished products, manufactured at considerable scale and sold primarily on price.
That isn't the market we set out to compete in.
WheatyBags® has always been about producing a better-quality product, with attention paid to the fabric, stitching, filling, construction and finishing.
We believe that is particularly important for a product that is going to be repeatedly heated in a domestic microwave.
A heat pack may look like a simple fabric bag, but there is considerably more to producing a good one than simply filling a piece of material with wheat and sewing it closed.
The Importance of Construction
Our heat packs are manufactured with internal stitching that helps hold the filling in position.
On our popular Original Cotton Heat Pack, for example, the pack is divided into three sections so that the wheat remains distributed throughout the product and the heat can be more evenly distributed.
This attention to construction is one of the reasons we regard WheatyBags® as a premium quality UK-made heat pack brand.
We continually look at the construction of our products and listen to customer feedback about the sizes, shapes, fabrics and ways in which people want to use them.
Natural Materials Where We Can
We have also increasingly focused on the use of natural materials.
Our popular Original Cotton Heat Pack uses cotton fabric and natural wheat filling, with options including organic cotton and organic lavender.
Our wheat is sourced as locally as possible, and we offer a choice of natural fillings across the wider range.
We also provide scented and unscented options, allowing customers to choose the product that suits them.
For customers who prefer natural products, this gives WheatyBags® a significant advantage over many heat packs made using synthetic fabrics.
More Than Just Wheat Bags
Although the WheatyBags® name comes from our original wheat-filled products, the range has grown considerably.
Today we manufacture and supply:
- Traditional wheat bags
- Microwave heat packs
- Neck and shoulder warmers
- Back and body heat packs
- Extra-large heat packs
- Small targeted heat packs
- Heatable eye masks
- Bottle-shaped heat packs
- Personalised heat packs
- Heat packs with removable covers
- Scented and unscented products
- Natural and organic fabric options
- Other specialist warming products
We also offer traditional hot water bottles with our own manufactured covers, bringing our textile manufacturing expertise into another familiar warming product category.
Designed and Made in Lancashire
Our factory is based in Blackburn, Lancashire, where Clear Prospects Ltd has operated its manufacturing operation since 2000.
The business has spent decades developing expertise in textile products, from the original JetRest® travel pillow through to personalised photo gifts, promotional merchandise and the WheatyBags® range.
That means WheatyBags® benefits from something that many online heat-pack retailers simply don't have:
A real manufacturing operation behind the website.
We understand fabrics.
We understand sewing.
We understand product construction.
We understand filling.
We understand printing and finishing.
And, most importantly for WheatyBags®, we understand how to manufacture a product that is intended to be repeatedly heated and used in the home.
We Listen to Our Customers
One of the most useful things about manufacturing our own products is that we can respond to what our customers tell us.
Over the years, customers have suggested different sizes, shapes, fabrics and ways of using heat packs.
Some of those suggestions have become products.
We actively welcome feedback because the people using our products often have the best ideas about how they could be improved.
If you have an idea for a WheatyBags® product that you cannot find, tell us about it.
It may be the next product we manufacture.

WheatyBags® benefits from the wider textile manufacturing experience of Clear Prospects Ltd, which has been making fabric-based products in the UK since the late 1990s.
We Believe Quality Matters
We know that it is possible to manufacture a heat pack more cheaply.
But cheaper isn't always better.
When a product is designed to be heated in a microwave and used repeatedly against the body, we believe quality, construction and safety should matter more than simply achieving the lowest possible price.
That is why we have continued to manufacture WheatyBags® in Britain.
It gives us greater control over the materials we use, the way our products are constructed, the testing they undergo and the information supplied with them.
And it gives our customers something that we believe is worth paying for:
A properly made British heat pack from a company that has been manufacturing textile products for decades.
Made in Britain. Made to Last.
WheatyBags® began in 2010 with a simple idea: to manufacture better microwave heat packs.
More than a decade later, that principle remains at the heart of everything we do.
We continue to design, manufacture and improve our products here in Lancashire, using the skills and experience we have developed over many years.
